Freddie Mercury: The Google Doodle

Today when I first opened up my Internet browser, I was greeted to probably my favorite Google Doodle ever. Yesterday would have been Mercury’s 65th birthday, so Google decided to celebrate it by creating this doodle:

I’ve hardly listened to every song of Queen, mainly listening to them through a playlist I created on Grooveshark of their Absolute Greatest compilation album. I do enjoy them very much though. Today’s Google Doodle got me in the mood to listen to them, so I’m listening to the aforementioned playlist right now.

Game Updates: Twilight Princess, Pokémon Black

A few weeks ago I went to Walmart not expecting to get anything, but I decided to check out their video game section just to see what they had and of course to play any of the demos they had on display. The first thing I played was a demo for Asphalt 3D for the Nintendo 3DS. It was pretty cool and only increased my desire to get a 3DS; especially with the upcoming price cut. Next I went to try out the Xbox 360, but nothing interested me there. The funny thing is that the right analog stick was completely off. I then checked out the Playstation 3 and tried out a demo of MotorStorm: Apocalypse. I couldn’t tell if I liked it, but that could have been caused by the fact that its right analog stick was broken too. It was still there, but it would always lean in one direction.

When I was done playing the systems they had on display, My eye caught a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Nintendo Wii for only $20. The reason it was so cheap was because it’s a part of the Nintendo Select line up and all Nintendo Select titles are $20. It was great to finally see that game at such a low price. Whenever I went to GameStop to pick up a game, a used copy was always around $45. I never understood why that never went down at least a little bit before it’s inclusion to the Nintendo Select line up.

I’ve played Twilight Princess before shortly after it’s original release in 2006, but that was the GameCube version a friend lent me and my brother. There were two things I was curious about regarding the two versions. The first was the difference in how they control. The GameCube uses a traditional gamepad, but the Wii uses motion controls. The second thing I was curious about was the orientation of the map. This one is the biggest difference as far as I’m concerned. Twilight Princess was originally going to be a GameCube exclusive. At some point during its development, Nintendo decided to delay its release so they could add could content and port it to the Wii. They went back and forth between using motion controls or just button presses and when they finally decided to use motion controls, it was very late in its development.  The problem with that is that the games main character, Link, holds his sword with his left hand, but players would be swinging the Wii controller with their right hand. The only way they could fix this problem so late in its development was to flip everything around, so that the GameCube version and the Wii version are mirror images of each other.

After some time playing it, it’s been very good. I like the controls and because I haven’t played the GameCube version in about four years, the orientation differences haven’t bothered me much. It’s been great replaying this game and will help aid in my anticipation for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, due out later this year.

It’s a bit late, but I wanted to also write a little about Pokémon Black Version. I got it at the end of April, just in time before Victini’s Wi-Fi event ended. Some of the new creatures are odd, but I found it a great game overall. I especially love the Dream World service they created for this generation of Pokémon games. If you want to add me to your Pal Pad, my friend code is 5200-2936-3375. I completed my National Pokédex, so I may be able to help you out with things you need.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time posterI recently rented The Girl Who Leapt Through Time from the library and finally got to watch it yesterday. It’s a fantastic animated film about a girl who gains the ability to go back in time and in doing so, she decides to change little things about her day so that it goes more smoothly than the first time she experienced it. Ultimately she finds out that even the littlest changes can have negative impacts on those around her. I’d highly recommend this film to anyone who is even slightly interested. You won’t be disappointed.

My pick for Super Bowl XLV

This should be a great game to watch. The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers are two of the best teams in the NFL and both have great histories. Which one do I think is the better team? I believe the Steelers are. Which one do I want to see win? I guess it doesn’t really matter, but I’ll just say that I’ll be wearing an invisible cheese hat for this one.

Video games can save lives

Once in a while a story pops up that shows the positive effects of playing video games. Here’s one of them:

I tried to embed the video on the page, but WordPress wouldn’t let me <.<

2010 NFL conference championship games

The Packers-Bears game will be underway in about twenty minutes, so I figured I’d weigh in on who I’d like to win in both conference championship games. I really don’t mind who wins the NFC, but for some reason I’d like to see the Packers win it all, so I’ll go with them. In the AFC game, I’ll go with Pittsburgh. Both teams are bit of rivals to my Patriots, but I’m pretty sure it would be more hazardous to my mental health if the Jets had a chance to win the Super Bowl, haha. Plus, the Packers and Steelers would be a fantastic watch in the Super Bowl due to the great history of both franchises.

Oops!

So my last post was just a lie. Just like cake, but I don’t think Erik Wolpaw would want to hear me say that, hehe.

I’m going to try to get back into posting some entries and will try to make two to three entries a week. I’m going to make it a mental note to make these posts mandatory as if they’re school assignments to help get me in the habit of posting. I want to feel like I’m being productive when I’m on the Internet and I think this will help, as well as re-devoting time to certain social networks that mean something to me.

Due to personal reasons, there may be a time period where I’ll be unable to post anything, but I’ll certainly make posts when I can. Like I said in my previous posts, I may make a lot of small and simple Tumblr-like posts in an effort to share more with whoever may be following my blog.

When I come back like Jordan, wearin the 4-5

Sorry, I couldn’t help the Jay-Z reference, haha.

I haven’t updated this blog in a long time @_@ I think I’m going to start making posts again. Instead of treating this as just a blog, I think I’ll start using it more like Tumblr. I like writing long posts, but sometimes I get lazy and end up never writing up some of my ideas. I feel like if I treat it more like Tumblr, I can get more content on here and hopefully that will be content that people will like to read or see. You may ask why I just don’t use Tumblr instead of WordPress. It’s because I like how everything can be easily imported and exported in WordPress if I decide to host this blog myself. I’m not sure if Tumblr can do that, but there really is no reason to find out if WordPress does it well enough. Using WordPress in this fashion will also allow me to more easily share small updates without being confined to 140 characters. Twitter is great, but sometimes you just need more characters. At the same time, you don’t really want to write out some massive post, so using WordPress in this fashion really works out perfectly.

Hope you enjoy the posts to come. One of my worries was to be careful on the array of topics I posted about so I wouldn’t alienate any readers I happened to gain, but I’m going to get rid of that mentality and write freely about anything that interests me. If you don’t like certain topics I post about, feel free to look at (or subscribe to) my blog on a tag or category basis. That way you can just read the stuff you like 🙂

2009 nfl playoff picks: super bowl xliv

Super Bowl XLIV is about an hour away, so I’m really cutting it close posting my picks this late, haha. During conference championship week, I went 1-1 against the spread (3-7 overall) and 2-0 straight up (5-5 overall).

This year’s Super Bowl is going to be a great game to watch, but I guess by definition, it should be. If I was picking this game with my heart, I’d pick the Saints. I’d really love to see them win and being a Patriots fan, I’m not sure seeing the Colts win is going to make me feel too good, haha. I do think the Colts are the better team, so that’s the team I will “officially” pick. Their offense is more consistent and Peyton Manning seems to be better in pressure situations than he was in the past. It would not surprise me though if the Saints won. Let’s hope that happens 🙂

Against the spread:

Indianapolis Colts -4.5 over the New Orleans Saints

Straight up:

Indianapolis Colts over the New Orleans Saints

2009 nfl playoff picks: conference championships

Another subpar weekend for me in the picks during the divisional match-ups. Against the spread I went 1-3 and 2-6 overall during the playoffs, while I went 2-2 straight up improving to 3-5. A couple tough ones this week in their own way, especially the Saints-Vikings game. I feel like that game could go either way. My picks:

Against the spread:

New York Jets +8.5 over the Indianapolis Colts

Minnesota Vikings +3.5 over the New Orleans Saints

Straight up:

Indianapolis Colts over the New York Jets

New Orleans over the Minnesota Vikings
